“It’s extremely important that we keep our composure,” Ukraine’s foreign ministry said in a statement on Friday, adding that Russia could invade Ukraine “at any time.”
“At this time it is extremely important that we maintain our composure, remain united in the country and avoid actions that undermine stability and sow panic,” the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
“Ukraine’s armed forces are constantly monitoring the situation and are ready to repel any encroachment on Ukraine’s territorial integrity and national sovereignty,” he added.
Kiev also notes that it is “in touch 24 hours a day with all major partners” and receives prompt information on security issues.
“We continue to work to defuse tensions and mobilize the support of our international partners in order to keep Russia within the diplomatic framework,” the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
Russia has mobilized more than 100,000 troops near its border with Ukraine, and the United States announced yesterday that an invasion could take place at any time. Washington also urged its citizens to leave Ukraine as soon as possible, as did other countries, including Britain, Japan and Australia.
Moscow denies any plans to invade Ukraine, saying it is only defending its own security interests against the aggression of NATO allies.
US President Joe Biden and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin are expected to have a telephone conversation today. US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken also said he would have a telephone conversation with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov today.
