“I made a huge mistake” admitted Sandra Bortz in the emergency press conference she gave
After she was targeted for plagiarizing her fellow students’ papers in her master’s degreewithout omitting even their… mistakes, Norway’s Minister of Higher Education submitted her resignation today Friday.
“I made a huge mistake” she admitted Sandra Borts in the extraordinary press conference he gave. “I used texts from other works without mentioning the source, I apologize,” he added.
A little earlier, Norwegian media reported that they found out disturbing similarities in Sandra Bortz’s 2014 MA to other texts, mainly with the master’s degrees of two other students for which there was no mention or reference in hers. Excerpts posted on Platform X by a student show that among other things, Sandra Borts copied an entire paragraph word for word, including… typos.
The revelation embarrassed the ministry, which last week decided to appeal to the Supreme Court against a student who was acquitted by the Court of Appeal of a charge of “plagiarism” for using excerpts from her own text.
Sandra Bors comes from the Center Party, which mainly defends the interests of the farming world. He took over as Minister of Higher Education in 2023, after the previous two years he was Minister of Agriculture. Her master’s degree was in petroleum regulatory safety.
Many other members of Norway’s centre-left government have resigned in recent months, mainly due to conflict of interest.
