During an official event in the Andean city of Ayacucho, where in December 2022 ten people were killed in protests against its government
The president of Peru, Dina Bolluarte, was attacked yesterday Saturday by two women during an official event in the Andean city of Ayacucho, where in December 2022 ten people were killed in demonstrations against her government.
The attack took place as Ms. Boluarte was participating in the laying of the foundation stone of a road that will connect Chiara with Ayacucho, about 570 kilometers southeast of the capital Lima.
The head of state was meeting with the prefect of Ayacucho, Wilfredo Oscorima, when two women moved against her, one of whom pulled the president’s hair, according to images broadcast live on television.
“They killed my husband, how do I stay cool?” said one of the women, who was arrested by the police.
He personally blamed Mrs. Boluarte for the death of her husband, who was among the victims of the incidents during the anti-government demonstrations in Ayacucho on December 15, 2022.
The head of the cabinet of Mrs. Bolluarte’s government, Alberto Otarola, condemned the “extremely serious” attack, which “endangered the physical integrity of the head of state,” via X (the former Twitter).
The president visited Ayacucho for the first time since the mass protests against it across the Latin American country, when at least fifty people were killed, around twenty in military and police operations, according to the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR).
