The Ocean Jazz was attacked while sailing off the Gulf of Aden
US Navy denies Yemeni Houthi rebels claim of missile attack on US cargo ship Ocean Jazz in the Gulf of Aden.
“The report by Iran-backed Houthi terrorists of an alleged successful attack on the Ocean Jazz ship is completely false. NAVCENT maintained communication with the Ocean Jazz throughout its safe passage,” the US Navy’s command in charge of the area underlines Middle East (US Naval Forces Central Command or NAVCENT).
An official of the US Department of Defense, who was contacted earlier by the French News Agency (AFP), described the information as “false”. A Pentagon official spoke to the American network Fox News about the “propaganda” of the Houthis.
The representative of the Houthis, Mr Yahya Shariahe emphasized to the Al Masirah television network that “retaliation to US-British attacks is inevitable and that any new attack will not go unpunished.”
The Iranian-backed rebels reiterated that they would not allow “vessels linked to Israel” to pass through the Red Sea and the Arabian Sea “until a ceasefire is reached in Gaza Strip and its siege is lifted” by the Israeli army.
The US and Britain have launched missile strikes against Houthi military installations in Yemen in recent days, seeking to limit the threat posed by the Iran-backed rebels to international shipping.
