Activists are calling on US voters to write “ceasefire” on New Hampshire ballots today to impeach the Democratic president for his support for Israel despite the humanitarian disaster in the Gaza Strip.

“Vote for a ceasefire”: a collective of organizations opposed to the war sees the gesture as a way to force Joe Biden to take a stand against the continued attack of the Israeli army on the Palestinian enclave, with the declared goal of “eliminating” Hamas.

The main contest today is being held in the Republican camp, where Nikki Haley is hoping to pull off an unexpected upset, beating the overwhelming favorite Donald Trump. Democrats in the state are also holding a vote, though the party’s national organization does not recognize it and it will have virtually no impact on re-election candidate Joe Biden.

“These past three months, while the world has watched the war in the Gaza Strip worsen, the Biden administration has rejected all requests to call for a ceasefire and end American support for Israel,” the collective said via X (of the former Twitter).

“So we’re taking our fight to where Democrats have a choice to make: at the polls,” he added. “Although Joe Biden will almost certainly secure the nomination of the Democratic Party this year, he must know that the road to get there will be long and difficult if he refuses to listen to his constituents.”

President Biden has been rejecting calls since the outbreak of war to ask US ally Israel to declare a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, despite much of the American left rallying for it.
