Court of Guatemala sentenced yesterday Monday drug lord to serve 808 years in prison for the massacre of fifteen Nicaraguan nationals and a Dutch national in 2008.
The court of the homonymous capital imposed this sentence on Rigoberto Danilo Morales after finding him guilty of complicity in the murders.
The court said it sentenced Morales to serve time 50 years for each murder and a further eight years for conspiracy and conspiracy.
In reality, however, Guatemalan law states that no one can serve more than 50 years in prison.
Morales, 37 years oldwas arrested in 2022, after 13 years which remained fugitive.
The trial began in September. According to the prosecutor’s office, a bus that entered Guatemala from Nicaragua and was carrying the victims was intercepted by alleged drug traffickers.
He was also believed to be carrying drugs; when this was found to be untrue, they executed the travelers before burning the bodies at a site owned by Marvin Montiel.
Eight other people, including another alleged drug ring leader, Marvin Montiel Marin, and his wife Sarah Crews, were sentenced to serve prison terms in the same case.
