These latest launches came a few days after the launch of the “Pulhwasal-3-31” missile, suggesting it carries nuclear weapons capability
THE North Korea fired multiple cruise missiles off its eastern coast today, the second such launch in less than a week, the South Korean National Defense General Staff.
The missiles were fired at around 08:00 (local time, 01:00 Greece time) and are being analyzed by South Korean and US intelligence services, the General Staff said without specifying their number or how far they had traveled.
“While we are enhancing surveillance and vigilance, our military is working closely with the US and monitoring additional indications and activities from North Korea,” the Joint Chiefs of Staff said in a statement.
The latest launches came days after North Korea launched what it described as a new strategic cruise missile called “Pulhwasal-3-31“, suggesting that it carries the capability of nuclear weapons.
North Korea is escalating its confrontation with the United States and its allies, but officials in Washington and Seoul say they have detected no signs that Pyongyang intends to take immediate military action.
Pyongyang is likely to continue or even intensify its provocative actions, according to officials and analysts. Earlier today, North Korea’s state news agency KCNA denounced a series of military exercises conducted in recent weeks by US and South Korean troops, warning of “merciless” consequences.
