The Ver.di union is calling local public transport workers for warning strikes from next Friday, while negotiations with state governments are ongoing, but to no avail.

“Given that collective bargaining has taken place in all the states without any result, now is the time to put more pressure on employers,” said Ver.di deputy federal president Christine Belle.

The mobilizations, initially with work stoppages at peak hours, but also 24-hour strikes, are estimated to cause serious traffic problems, as metros, buses and trams will be out of service. The situation varies from state to state, as do the demands of the workers. For example, in Brandenburg the main demand concerns an increase of 20% or at least 650 euros in monthly wages and the strike will be 24 hours, while in Berlin the workers are demanding more vacation days and a greater leave allowance and will carry out a work stoppage from 04:00 to at 10:00 am
