A raccoon with his… curiosity at a central Toronto power station knocked out power to thousands of downtown households late Thursday, knocking out street lights in Canada’s largest city and trapping people in elevators.

Specialists investigating the blackout they found that the nocturnal mammal touched equipment at a power station in downtown Toronto, utility Hydro One said in a social media post.

Hydro One did not say whether the raccoon survived.

The electrocution interruption it hit areas within about 2 km of the CN Tower station and left about 7,000 people in the dark for more than two hours.

The city’s fire department said it received dozens of calls and firefighters were dispatched to rescue elevators due to the power outage.

Some traffic lights were also out on streets in downtown Toronto, where the busy Union Station rail hub is also located, according to a Reuters witness.
