Britain is in a state of shock after the announcement from Buckingham that King Charles has been diagnosed with cancer, with the clarification that it is not prostate cancer, but with no other details.

The monarch, who was born in 1948, began a round of treatments on Monday, for the outcome of which he expresses optimism and looks forward to returning to his duties as soon as possible, according to the palace announcement.

Charles succeeded his mother, Elizabeth II, to the British throne after her death in September 2022. Although members of the royal family avoid releasing details about health issues, King Charles has chosen to go public with his diagnosis.

For his part, the former president Donald Trump he wrote in a post on the Truth Social platform that “he is a wonderful man, whom I got to know well during my presidency. We all pray for a speedy and full recovery.”

The French president Emmanuel Macron sent his “friendly greetings” to King Charles III yesterday, Monday evening, and wished him in English a “speedy recovery”, with a message he made public through the X social networking platform.

“Our thoughts go out to the British people,” Macron added, joining his recovery wishes with those around the world following the announcement of the king’s illness.
