Bolsonaro’s trip to Moscow amid tensions between Russia and Ukraine; listen to podcast

by

President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) arrives this Tuesday (15) in Russia, which is at the center of the biggest security crisis in Europe in recent years.

The United States claims that the Russians intend to invade Ukraine. Russia, which has moved more than 100,000 troops to the border region, denies that intention and says it sees the possibility of a deal. Ukraine says there is no evidence that the situation is heading towards an invasion.

The Russians want reassurance that the neighboring country will not become part of NATO, the Western military alliance, which is commanded by the US.

Russian President Vladimir Putin invited the Brazilian leader to visit at the end of last year, before the crisis escalated. Bolsonaro arrives in Moscow in a context of diplomatic isolation from Brazil, trying to strengthen ties with a great power.

At this Tuesday’s Breakfast, the reporter from leaf Igor Gielow, who is in Moscow to accompany the president’s trip, explains the troubled context on the border between Russia and Ukraine and analyzes Bolsonaro’s interests in this meeting with Putin.
