More than 300 train services, including almost a third of long-distance trains, were canceled in Spain today due to a strike at national rail company Renfe and the company that manages the Spanish rail network.

According to the “Workers Committees” (CCOO) union which announced the strike which is expected to last 24 hours, 310 train routes have been canceled in total, including 89 high speed train routes.

According to Renfe, the cancellations do not concern any of the international rail connections.

At the request of the Ministry of Transport, a minimum service of 65% will be provided on medium-distance train routes and 75% on the suburban train during peak hours, the public group clarifies in a statement.

The strikers are demanding an increase in the wages of new Renfe recruits and the implementation of a 35-hour working week for employees of Adif, the company that runs the Spanish rail network.
