German Foreign Minister Analena Burbock warned today against a possible attack by the Israeli army on Rafah, in southern Gaza, which would lead to a “declared humanitarian disaster”.
“THE despair in Rafa is already unimaginable. 1.3 million people seek refuge there from the fighting in a very limited space. An attack by the Israeli army against Rafah would be a declared humanitarian disaster,” Burbok pointed out in a message she posted on her X (formerly Twitter) account.

“Israel must defend itself against the terror of Hamas, but limiting as much as possible the suffering of the civilian population,” said Burbok.
She reiterated Germany’s calls for a ceasefire so that “the Israeli hostages can finally be freed” and announced that she would travel to Israel again next week to discuss the issue.
