The Kremlin today declined to comment on remarks made by former US President Donald Trump about not protecting NATO allies who are not spending enough on their defense against a possible Russian invasion.

“I am still a spokesman for (President Vladimir) Putin, not Trump,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters.

The Kremlin also stated that satellite internet Elon Musk’s Starlink system it is not certified for use, nor officially provided, in Russia and therefore cannot be used.

Ukraine, which has used Starlink for military communications throughout the war with Russia, said on Sunday that Russian troops were using Starlink in some areas of Ukraine they control.

In a conference call with reporters, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said: “It’s not a certified system with us, so it can’t be officially provided here and it’s not officially provided. So it can’t be used officially in any way.”

“That’s why here, probably, we shouldn’t get involved in the discussion between the Kiev regime and businessman Musk,” he said, referring to the Ukrainian government.

The Main Intelligence Services Directorate of Ukraine’s defense ministry said in a statement on Sunday that Starlink terminals are being used by units such as Russia’s 83rd Air Assault Brigade, which is fighting near the towns of Klyshtiivka and Andryivka in eastern Donetsk province.

In a post on Platform X yesterday, Musk said: “To our knowledge, no Starlinks have been sold either directly or indirectly to Russia.”

“A number of fake news claims that SpaceX is selling Starlink terminals to Russia,” Musk said in a post on X (formerly Twitter), which he also owns. “This is categorically false.”
