Israel blamed Brazil’s president Luis Inacio Lula da Silva that he downgraded the Holocaust and insulted the Jewish people today after likening Israel’s war against Hamas in Gaza to the Nazi genocide in World War II.

“What is happening in Gaza Strip with the Palestinian people cannot be paralleled by any other moment in history. In fact, it was when Hitler decided to kill the Jews,” Lula told reporters during the 37th African Union Summit in Addis Ababa.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Jerusalem announced that he would summon Brazil’s ambassador to reprimand him for the comments, which Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called “unacceptable and serious”.

“It is about his demotion Holocaust and an attempt to attack the Jewish people and Israel’s right to self-defense. Making comparisons between Israel and the Nazis and Hitler is crossing the red line,” pointed out Netanyahu in an announcement.
