“Today’s announcement ensures that Ukraine will have the drones it needs to detect and locate targets that are critical to the fight it continues to fight,” said Canada’s defense minister.
Canada will deliver more than 800 Sky Ranger R70 drones to Ukraine to bolster its armed forces in their fight against Russian invaders, Defense Secretary Bill Blair announced yesterday.
The value of the unmanned aerial systems (UAS) is estimated at 95 million Canadian dollars (65 million euros), the ministry said, noting that the delivery of the drones is part of the 500 million Canadian dollars in military aid announced by the prime minister Justin Trudeau during his visit last year to Kiev.
“Today’s announcement ensures that Ukraine will have the drones it needs to detect and locate targets that are critical to the fight it continues to fight. Canada will stand by Ukraine as long as it takes,” said Bill Blair.
Since the start of the Russian invasion in February 2022, the Trudeau government has provided more than C$9.7 billion (€6.6 billion) in economic and military aid.
