At least two dead are the toll so far from the hit that Israeli rockets hit a residential building in the Kafr Susa district of the Syrian capital, Damascus, as reported by the state Syrian television and according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

The district is home to several residential buildings, schools and Iranian cultural centers and is close to a heavily guarded complex used by security services.

The same district was the target of an Israeli attack in February 2023, which killed Iranian army specialists.

Syria’s state-run SANA news agency reported that an “Israeli attack” targeted a residential building, but did not report any casualties.

He did, however, release an image of a high-rise building with one side on fire.

Eyewitnesses said they heard multiple explosions in quick succession.

As they themselves told Reuters, the explosions scared the children of a neighboring school and ambulances rushed to the area.

There was no immediate comment from the Israeli military.

Iran has been a major supporter of President Bashar al-Assad during the nearly 12-year conflict in Syria.

Its support for Damascus and the Lebanese Hezbollah group has prompted regular Israeli bombings aimed at curbing Tehran’s military power in third countries.
