King Charles made his first official appearance on camera after being diagnosed with cancer on Wednesday evening, welcoming Prime Minister Rishi Sunak to Buckingham Palace.

On camera, the 75-year-old monarch can be heard telling Mr Sunak that he was brought to tears many times by the “lovely messages and cards” he received after his illness was announced.

Mr Sunak told him it was “wonderful to see you so well”, with Charles countering by joking that “it’s all done with mirrors”.

The British prime minister went on to say twice that the king has the support of the whole country.

Just before the camera rolled away, the two men spoke about highlighting the great work being done by cancer charities in the UK.
