A strange incident is being investigated by the Indian Railways as a freight train traveled more than 70 kilometers (43.4 miles) without a driver yesterday, Sunday.

Videos shared on social media showed the train speeding through several stations without stopping.

In particular, according to the BBC, the train without a driver started from Katua in Jammu and reached Kashmir in the Hoshiarpur region of Punjab, where the train stopped, fortunately without any injuries.

Officials told the Press Trust of India (PTI) news agency that the incident occurred between 7:25 and 09:00 local time (01:55 and 03:30 GMT) on Sunday.

The 53-carriage train, carrying stones, was on its way to Punjab from Jammu when it stopped at Kathua for personnel change. Then it suddenly started moving down a slope after the driver and his assistant got off.

The train was traveling at a speed of nearly 100 km/h and managed to cross about five stations before stopping.

“The train stopped after a railway official placed wooden blocks on the tracks to stop the train,” officials told PTI.

The wooden blocks helped to slow down the train.

Officials told PTI that they are trying to determine the exact reason the train started moving to avoid such incidents in future.
