Austria: Most pandemic restrictions lifted on 5 March

by

THE Austria removes from March 5 almost all meters for pandemicmainly due to the prevention of burden on the health system, announced recently Chancellor Carl Nehammer.

As of February 19, when until now only access to vaccinated and sick people was allowed (Rule 2G), entry will also be allowed upon presentation of a negative diagnostic test (Rule 3G).

From March 5, this measure will be abolished, while the 2G Rule will continue to regulate access to hospitals, nursing homes and rehabilitation centers. The use of a protective mask will now be mandatory only in workplaces, supermarkets, doctor’s offices, hospitals and nursing homes, while restaurants will operate for everyone and without time limit.

The Austrian government has also announced that it is considering a change in strategy regarding free diagnostic tests, as they have cost at least 2.6 billion euros so far. In addition, a pandemic management strategy is being developed for the possibility of a new variant of the main strain of the coronavirus.

“The pandemic is not over, but the health system is stable and we can decide to lift restrictions,” said Nehamer.

Vienna, however, will for the time being maintain both the general use of the mask and the 2G Rule in catering, announced the Mayor of the capital, Michael Ludwig.
