The fresh carnage in the Gaza Strip is sparking strong international reactions where, according to Hamas, at least 112 Palestinians were killed and 760 others injured at the “Nablus Roundabout”, in western Gaza, the enclave’s largest city, when a crowd moved towards trucks with food and Israeli soldiers opened fire on him.

Israel spoke of “limited” fire on the crowd of its soldiers who were “threatened” and assured that most of the dead were trampled in panic or “dragged away” by trucks.

European foreign policy chief Josep Borrell on Thursday night condemned the “new carnage”, what he described as “totally unacceptable” deaths, after the Hamas government said more than 110 people had died when a food distribution turned into chaos.

“I am horrified by the news of yet another massacre of civilian casualties in Gaza in desperate need of humanitarian aid,” the EU High Representative said via X (formerly Twitter).

“These deaths are completely unacceptable”, he continued and emphasized that “depriving people of food aid is a serious violation of IHL (international humanitarian law)”. He stressed that unfettered humanitarian access to Gaza must be granted.

The French Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the “unjustified Israeli fire” during the distribution of humanitarian aid in Gaza

“The shooting of Israeli soldiers against civilians” who are waiting to receive food aid “is unjustified”, underlined a statement from the French Foreign Ministry, which pointed out that “the tragic incident” takes place at a time when more and more Palestinian civilians are suffering from hunger and diseases.

The French Foreign Ministry adds that it expects the Israeli authorities to shed light on the case, underlining that “Israel must comply with the rules of international law and protect the distribution of humanitarian aid to civilian populations.”

The head of Spanish diplomacy Jose Manuel Alvarez described the events as “unacceptable”.

“It is unacceptable what is happening in Gaza, with dozens of Palestinian civilians dead while they were waiting for food, it underlines the urgent need for a cease-fire,” the Spanish Foreign Minister said via X (the former Twitter).

“Humanitarian aid must be able to enter unhindered,” he added. “The observance of international humanitarian law is mandatory,” he reminded.
