Eleven people were taken to hospital and around 130 were evacuated early this morning from an apartment building in a luxury district of London, in which a fire broke out, the fire brigade announced.

The apartment building in which the fire broke out is located at South Kensington, in the south-western part of the British capital, near the Natural History Museum of London.

When the fire department arrived, half of the ground floor of the five-story building was engulfed in flames, according to a London Fire Service post on Platform X.

“The fire spread from the ground floor to the top floor and the roof (of the building). (Fire) crews are working hard to (…) prevent it from spreading to neighboring buildings,” said Steve Collins, a fire official. fire department that was at the scene.

Five people were rescued using ladders by the fire department and approximately 130 residents were evacuated from the apartment building and neighboring buildings.

“Around 11 people received first aid for smoke inhalation and were taken to hospital,” according to the fire department.

15 fire trucks and approximately 100 firefighters were mobilized to extinguish the fire.
