Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin and China’s Special Envoy for Eurasian Affairs Li Hui pointed out that it is impossible to discuss the resolution of the crisis in Ukraine without the participation of Moscow in any talks, according to a statement from the Russian Foreign Ministry.

The two officials met during the first stop of the second tour of the Chinese special envoy to the region in order to discuss a possible political solution to the Ukrainian crisis. Li Hui will visit, in addition to Russia, Ukraine, Poland and Germany.

In the “thorough exchange of views” on the Ukrainian crisis, “it was said that any discussion of a political and diplomatic settlement” is “impossible without the participation of Russia” and “without taking into account its interests in the sphere of security,” according to the press release of Russian diplomacy.

However, there is no indication that talks between Russia and Ukraine are imminent, more than two years after the Russian invasion of Ukrainian territory in February 2022.
