Accessed data banks with the personal details of over three hundred politicians, athletes and entertainers who work or have worked in Italy
An Italian police officer working for Italy’s National Anti-Mafia Prosecutor’s Office accessed data banks with the personal details of over three hundred politicians, athletes and entertainers who work or have worked in Italy.
This illegal activity concerns the period from 2019 to 2023 and is mainly related to bank accounts and real estate purchases on behalf of the specific persons.
The whole case is being dealt with by the Perugia prosecutor’s office, which has launched an investigation and the persons whose information and data were allegedly breached include footballer Ronaldo, Marta Fassina, former partner of Silvio Berlusconi, former Italian prime ministers Matteo Renzi and Giuseppe Conte, current Defense Minister Guido Crozeto and rapper Fedez.
The Italian press underlines that it should be ascertained if there is a “mastermind” behind these movements, an agent and why part of the personal data, as it turns out, was published by a daily newspaper of the country.
A little while ago, the Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni also mentioned the whole case, with her statement, who underlined: “I consider it very serious that in our country there are public officials who spent their time violating the law, with checks that concerned citizens, ordinary and not, at their will, then giving that information to the press, to some members of the press. To use data banks in this way has nothing to do with freedom of the press.”
