Marco Marsilio, conservative candidate of the Brothers of Italy, the League and Forza Italia, managed to re-elected governor of the Abruzzo region, in central Italy, with 53.5% of the vote. His opponent Luciano D’Amico, who in yesterday’s elections was supported by the center-left Democratic Party, the Five Stars and all the smaller opposition parties, did not exceed 46.5%.

“In the last thirty years no regional governor had managed to be re-elected, we wrote a page of history and threw down another wall,” said Marsilio. The Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, in her post on social media, underlined:

“The fact that the citizens of Abruzzo have decided to continue to show confidence in Marsilios, but also in the entire center-right – which remains a majority force – is a cause of great pride for us. As always, we will show ourselves worthy of this trust. We will continue to work to give Abruzzo and Italy the place they deserve.”

The specific local elections were considered critical “test”, because were held three months before the European elections and just two weeks after the victory of the center-left and the Five Stars in the regional elections of Sardinia.
