At least 50 injured on LATAM flight – 13 hospitalized, one in serious condition
At least 13 passengers flight from Sydney had to be served on hospitalfollowing turbulence on the plane they were on bound for Chile via Auckland in New ZealandNew Zealand rescue service announced today.
According to an announcement in her New Zealand Herald newspaper LATAM Airlineswhich is headquartered in Chile, “technical problem” caused a “strong motion” during her plane flight from Sydney to Auckland.
“Ambulance rescuers assessed the situation 50 injuredone of whom is in a serious condition, and they were given first aid,” said Gerard Campbell of New Zealand’s St John Ambulance Service, who said 13 people were taken to hospital.
According to this service, rescue crews were alerted around 16:00 local time (05:00 Greek time) to rush to the airport, where 5 ambulances were dispatched.
According to real-time flight tracking company FlightAware, Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner of the South American airline operating the flight LA800 landed at Oakland airport on schedule this afternoon (local time).
A spokesman for the airline told the Herald there was “technical problem” in flight that affected some crew members and passengers, but did not provide further details.
Boeing and LATAM Airlines have not yet responded to questions from Reuters about the causes and nature of the incident.
