Around 100 tractors have blocked Liege airport since yesterday afternoon, Tuesday.

The aim of the young farmers’ federation is to prevent the trucks from leaving the airport. As they point out, according to the Belgian media, the aim is to prevent products arriving in Belgium that could be prepared and produced in the country with the farmers talking about unfair competition.

“We don’t want imported products that don’t respect the same social and environmental standards as ours. Many products come with quite active ingredients that are banned in Europe,” points out Gary Vanvikeroje, a farmer, as reported by the rtl network.

At the same time, as stated in the rtl report which cites protesters, this particular airport was not chosen by chance, but because it is the largest for imports and exports other than road transport.
