The head of the Ukrainian armed forces Alexander Shirsky admitted today Wednesday that the situation on the eastern front, where Russian forces continue their offensive, remains “difficult”, in contrast to other zones where their action has been “significantly reduced”.

“The operational situation on the eastern front remains difficult,” Sirsky said in a Telegram post, adding that he himself had gone to the “field of operations,” the zone where there is “a threat of Russian advances in depth,” without elaborating further.

“The enemy continues to carry out offensive actions, focusing his efforts on the zones of Terni, Ivanifske, Berdici, Tonenke, Verbove and Robotine,” Sirsky added, accompanying his post with photos of himself with soldiers on the battlefield.

“At the same time, probably due to the heavy losses, the enemy’s action in other zones of the front has been significantly reduced,” he added.

The president of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, who installed Sirsky, assured on Monday, in an interview he gave to French media, that Russia’s advance has “stopped” on the eastern front, and that the situation now is “much better” than it was three months ago.

Immediately after the capture, in mid-February, of the city of Avdiivka, after four months of fierce fighting, the Russian forces they very quickly understood several villages to the west of this city. But since the beginning of March, the Russian attacks seem to have decreased and Moscow only announced the capture of the settlement of Nevelske, southwest of Avdiivka, on Tuesday. The representative of the Ukrainian army in this area denied today the capture of Nevelskeassuring that the Ukrainians still have it under their control.

“In two weeks of fierce fighting, the enemy suffered very heavy losses. However, all the communities he was trying to capture remain under our control,” General Sirski also said.
