Spikes against “distant enemies” left the chief of the Israeli army Herzi Halevi speaking Friday to Border Patrol officers in the West Bank.

Speaking in the shadow of the impending military operation in Rafah he stated that “Israel is in a multi-front war, and that episodes on one front can affect others.”

“We are more careful this month. Really be very careful, very careful, with very good security,” Halevi said, referring to Ramadan.

“We are in a multi-front war, in Lebanon, Syria, Judea, Samaria [Δυτική Όχθη] and Gaza and with more distant things,” said Halevi.

“Everybody, every soldier… has responsibility for all the fields, because every incident that happens in one of the fields really affects and can cause [εξελίξεις] and in other areas” he interpreted.

His intense concern about Israel’s planned attack in the city of Rafa of the southern Gaza Strip, where more than half of the 2.3 million inhabitants of the Palestinian enclave have found refuge, he expressed meanwhile Olaf Solz before the two-day trip to the Middle East.

“There is a risk that a general attack on Rafah will result in many terrible civilian casualties, which is strictly prohibited”, warned the chancellor.
