Putin: 10,000 ruble “allowance” to every refugee from Donbas

President Vladimir Putin on Friday ordered the Minister of Emergency Situations to travel to southeastern Russia to arrange accommodation for residents fleeing the two self-proclaimed breakaway republics. Eastern Ukraineas well as to provide financial assistance of 10,000 rubles (116 euros) to each refugee arriving in the Rostov region.

Putin gave the order in response to a request from Rostov-on-Don regional governor Vassily Golubev, who asked him to provide emergency assistance due to the an unexpected large influx of refugees.

“Putin spoke by telephone with the acting Minister of Emergency Situations, Alexander Tsupriyan, and instructed him to go urgently to the Rostov region to organize on-site work to create accommodation, provide hot meals and everything needed, including “Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peshkov said.

“The Russian president also instructed the Russian government to urgently ensure that every refugee arriving in the area from Donbas will receive 10,000 rubles,” Peshkov added.

The two self-proclaimed breakaway regions are located in the Donbas region of Ukraine.

The self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic announced earlier today the mass evacuation of the region and the promotion of its inhabitants to Russia, following the increase in bombings. The self-proclaimed People’s Republic of Luhansk later issued a similar statement.
