Thirteen workers they are trapped in a gold mine in the Amur region of Russia after a landslide, the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations announced today, Tuesday.

“Communication has been restored and the slope is being cleared with machinery,” the ministry said in a post on the Telegram app.

The Russian president Vladimir Putin has been informed of the 13 trapped workers in the Amur region and will ensure that every effort is made to rescue them, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said today.

The accident occurred in Pioneer, one of the largest gold mines in Russia based on editability, Russian media reported. It is located in the Amur region of Eastern Siberia, on the southern border of Russia with China.

The mine is owned by London-listed Russian gold miner Petropavlovsk, which in 2022 filed for receivership as Western sanctions on Gazprombank, the main lender and sole buyer of its gold, have left it struggling to repay her debt.
