It is surprising that the most powerful country in the world cannot find among its 334,914,895 inhabitants fresh and incorruptible persons who will claim the presidency of the country. Isn’t there a new Bill Clinton or a new Barack Obama in the entire 9,833,520 square kilometer territory? No way. The world’s most distinguished universities are on the other side of the Atlantic, yet an 81-year-old who systematically forgets and a 77-year-old populist will be the dilemma of November 5.

When the Donald Trump with his statements he “shocks” Europe and the polls show that he is ahead of Joe Biden, no one on the old continent can remain quiet. What does it mean that the end of American democracy will come if he loses? The ears of many Americans are not sweating and they want him as their president again. Maybe because he keeps confusing his presidential opponent with Obama. Not that the current planet lord inspires any confidence with his latest appearances. He in turn confuses Angela Merkel with Helmut Kohl and Emmanuel Macron with François Mitterrand. In response to Trump’s threats, Biden issued a statement accusing him of threatening “democracy,” if not “the very idea of America.” The conflict has begun and it will be toxic. It is recalled that in the previous elections, even in the midterms, Biden was the one who accused Trump of being dangerous for the Republic.

The “rockets” constantly launched by the former president provoke many discussions and constantly open up issues. From the moment he hinted that NATO could remain uninvolved in a possible attack of Russia at the expense of a member state, maybe some people should start taking him seriously. It’s not something that hasn’t been said before. He doesn’t tolerate “sidestepping” in terms of finances (the alliance’s agreed target for countries’ defense spending is 2% of GDP), but everyone is wondering what the impact will be if a year from now Donald Trump “moves” to White House and decided to stop support to Ukraine. In this context, Biden he recently referred to the war, repeating that “we will not bow down,” neither his government, nor the Ukrainians, nor him personally.

Donald Trump is unable to pay the bail requested by the justice on USA to repay $454 million in fines imposed on him for financial wrongdoing at his real estate group. At the same time, however, he narrows the gap with Biden in the surveys that are being conducted and, more specifically, he is doing well among non-white voters. He’s trying to hit the current president on immigration, that many illegal immigrants have crossed the US-Mexico border in the last four years. The landscape is fluid and the rematch of the 2020 elections will be dramatic. The element of abstinence will also be crucial. American citizens disillusioned by the poverty of potential presidents exist, but they do not seem to be the majority.

For the first time, two candidates will face off for the second time in a row in a US presidential election after almost seven decades. And it may be the only interesting element in this particular conflict with statistics dominating. Polarization is a given with Trump taking advantage of the fatigue of the people who, despite working hard, do not see their income rising and are struggling financially. His rhetoric is addressed to a large part of the public that is looking for something alternative far beyond the known and permissible political boundaries. Opponents of globalization who seek security through a misconceived patriotism and like provocative narratives. To the question of why the Democrats have not been able to present a new candidate, the answers may be many, but not convincing. A young politician with sound political thinking and a gift for communication would hardly attract interest. Clearly the current president is attracting more people. Since he is eligible for a second term, it is not a simple matter for the Democrats to disown him. He is the person, after all, who defeated Trump in 2020. At the same time, a large part of them support that they are voting for Biden so that Trump does not come out. All this is happening at a time when two out of five Americans from both parties believe that Trump and Biden are a threat to democracy.
