Russia announced on Saturday evening that it shot down 10 Ukrainian missiles aimed at Sevastopol in Crimea, the Ukrainian peninsula annexed by Moscow in 2014.

“Our soldiers repelled a massive attack in Sevastopol. According to the first information, more than 10 missiles were shot down,” announced the Russian-appointed governor of Sevastopol Mikhail Razvozaev by posting it on Telegram.

He then clarified that the attack killed one person, a 65-year-old civilian, and that four people were injured, including a teenager. He also noted that infrastructure was damaged, including an office building and a natural gas line.

Road and sea transport connecting Russia to the Crimean peninsula was suspended for several hours, the Russian-appointed regional transport administration announced at the same time.

Crimea is often targeted by the Ukrainian military’s missiles and drones because of its importance in logistical support for Russian occupation forces in southern Ukraine.
