The head of the UN Antonio Guterres appealed from Cairo today for “Israel to remove the last obstacles to aid” to the famine-stricken Gaza Strip, once again urging Israel and the Hamas to implement an “immediate ceasefire”.

“When we look at her Gauzeit is like the four horsemen of the Apocalypse are galloping overhead, sowing war, famine, conquest and death,” Guterres said during a joint press conference with Egypt’s foreign minister Sameh Shukri.

“The whole world believes that it is now time to silence the guns and implement an immediate ceasefire,” he added.

Guterres also warned of the impact the war in Gaza is having on the entire world.

“The daily assault on the human dignity of the Palestinians creates a crisis of credibility for the international community,” he pointed out.

Earlier today, he met with President of Egypt Abdel Fattah al-Sisiaccompanied by the head of the UN agency for Palestine refugees (Unrwa), Philippe Lazzarini.

Guterres denounced yesterday from Egypt the “pain” of the residents of Gaza, who are trapped in “an endless nightmare”, on the occasion of his visit to the crossing station with the city of A seamstresslocated in the southern part of the Palestinian enclave.
