Qatar assured today that negotiations between Hamas and Israel on a Gaza ceasefire and the exchange of hostages for Palestinian prisoners were continuing, although both sides blamed each other for the lack of progress.

The conversations “is in progress”Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesman Majid Al Ansari said at a press conference, adding that “there has been no development to suggest that one of the teams (of negotiators) has withdrawn.”

The war in the Gaza Strip broke out on October 7following the unprecedented attack by Hamas on Israeli soil that claimed the lives of at least 1,160 people. About 250 were kidnapped and 130 of them remain hostages in Gaza although 33 have died.

The attack launched by the Israeli army in retaliation has claimed the lives of more than 32,300 people in Gaza, according to the Hamas health ministry.

A source close to the talks told AFP that officials from the Mossad, Israel’s secret service, remain in Doha for the Qatari-Egyptian-sponsored talks” and that only “part of the Mossad team” returned to Israel for consultations .
