“The legitimate defense with a goal the punishment of the aggressor is a necessity” Tehran announces to the West, directly threatening Israel.

Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian warned Thursday that the Islamic Republic maintains “the legal right to punish Israel for his aggression against the country’s diplomatic mission in Syria.”

Abdolakhian made the remarks in a telephone conversation with his German counterpart, Analena Burbok, according to the IRNA agency.

“When the Israeli regime completely violates the immunity of individuals and diplomatic places in violation of international law and the Vienna Conventions, legal defense aimed at punishing the aggressor is a necessity,” he explained to the German foreign minister.

He referred to “the Zionist regime’s airstrike on the consular section of the Iranian embassy in Damascus, which led to the testimony of seven military advisers in Syria”, but stressed, however, that his country’s foreign policy it was always based on avoiding tensions.

Referring to Iran’s expectation that Germany would explicitly condemn the attack, the Iranian minister asked how Europe and the United States would have reacted if there had been a similar missile attack on one of their diplomatic facilities in Ukraine.

For her part, the German Foreign Ministry stated that diplomatic sites enjoy full international immunity, and invited the Islamic Republic to show restraint.

The two top diplomats also discussed other developments in the West Asian region and bilateral relations, stressing the need to maintain the course of dialogue.
