Israel’s reaction given – Timing and scope undecided – Various plans and options under consideration – Military operation in Rafah to be postponed
According to information, the majority of the members of the war council in Israel are in favor of the response to Iran.
According to information, it was decided to postpone the operation in Rafah, in order to redesign the plan and to focus the forces on the biggest enemy, which is Iran.
As an official in Israel reported, the majority is in favor of retaliation, however the timing and scope of the “response” has not been decided.
The same sources say that Council members were authorized to consider and propose actions, as the opinion of Israel’s allies, especially the US, should also be taken into account. Let us note at this point, that Joe Biden has expressed in all ways and clearly, his opposition to a possible Israeli reaction, as in this case, the chances of the tension escalating to an uncontrollable degree are very high .
It should be mentioned that Iran has warned that if it receives retaliation or, even more, an attack on its soil, its reaction will be many times greater than Saturday’s attack. At the same time, a message has been sent to Israel’s allies not to encourage or assist a possible Tel Aviv attack on Tehran, because there will be an immediate response on that front as well.
Demand from the far right wing of the government to counter attack
Earlier, two ministers from the far-right wing of the Israeli government had openly advocated a strong response to Iran, which on Saturday night launched at least 300 drones and ballistic missiles at Israel in retaliation for the bombing of the Damascus consulate.
More specifically, the Minister of Finance Bezalel Smotrich urged for a response that would “resonate throughout the Middle East” and the Minister of National Security Itamar Ben Gvir he said Israel should “go crazy” and react accordingly.
Smotrich, head of his far-right party Religious Zionismsaid that if Israel hesitates, “we will be putting ourselves and our children in existential danger.”
Smotrich called this a “moment of truth,” saying, “If our response resonates throughout the Middle East for generations to come, we will win.”
Ben Gvir, the leader of the far-right party Jewish Powersaid Israel’s response should not be “weak” and that “the concepts of restraint and proportionality are concepts that died on October 7,” the day of the Hamas attack on Israeli territory.
Note that neither Smotrich nor Ben Gvir are members of Israel’s war cabinet.
