French Foreign Minister Stephane Cezournet has announced that Iran’s ambassador to Paris will be summoned to the Foreign Ministry to be given a stern message following Iran’s attack on Israel.

“There should be no inversion of blame. The Iranians are the ones who attacked Israel…,” the French foreign minister told the France 2 public television channel.

France carried out interceptions to protect French bases in the region, in Jordan, the United Arab Emirates or Iraq,” said Stéphane Cezournet, calling for de-escalation in the region.

“We assumed our responsibilities because we are factors of regional security,” he added. “The Iranian attack did not only threaten Israel, but was a blow to the security of our forces and violated the airspace of our Arab partners,” he said.

The British Foreign Office also today summoned the chargé d’affaires of the Iranian embassy in London to convey to him the message that the British government strongly condemns the Iranian attack.

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak confirmed that the British air force had shot down “several” Iranian drones and appealed for “calm” in the region to de-escalate tensions. British Foreign Minister David Cameron also appealed for de-escalation during the telephone conversation he had with his Iranian counterpart Hossein Amir-Abdollahian.

Tehran announced earlier that the ambassadors of the United Kingdom, France and Germany were summoned to the Foreign Ministry to convey the protest of the Iranian leadership “over the irresponsible positions of some officials of these countries in relation to Iran’s response to its series of actions Zionist regime against the citizens and interests” of Iran, according to the statement carried by the Irna news agency.
