At least four people were injuredincluding a bishop with a large online following, in the knife attack during a service at a church in a Sydney suburb today, Monday.

It was the second stabbing attack in just three days after six people were killed in a stabbing attack at a shopping mall in the Bondi district that sparked clashes between angry residents and police.

Bishop Mar Marie Emmanuel of the Assyrian Christ The Good Shepherd Church was delivering a sermon during a service today when a man walked up to him and stabbed him, according to a video of the incident captured during a live link on the church’s social media page.

Terrified worshipers screamed while the unknown man stabbed the priest several times in the head and chest, as the videos show. Authorities have not yet released any motive for the attack.

The police announced that arrested a 15-year-old at the scene and was forced to keep him at the Wakeley temple, a suburb about 30 kilometers west of central Sydney, for his own safety after an angry crowd gathered outside the temple and demanded the authorities take him out.

Two eyewitnesses told Reuters that the crowd threw stones at the police. More than 100 police officers were eventually called in to deal with the riots and two were taken to hospital with injuries, according to police. Reuters saw police use pepper spray on two men.

“There was so much anger because the bishop is very dear and I love him very much, he preaches about God and we love God,” said a local named Kani.

The alleged perpetrator was taken to an unknown location.

At the same time, the New South Wales Ambulance Service announced that four people were injured in the attack. In a Facebook post, the church said Bishop Emmanuel and a priest, Father Isaac Royel, were among the injured. According to the police, their lives are not in danger.

“We ask that you pray at this time. It is the wish of the bishop and the father who are also praying for the perpetrator,” the church’s post said.

Emanuel was ordained a priest in 2009 and then a bishop in 2011, according to the church’s website. He has become a popular social media personality, with videos of his sermons garnering hundreds of thousands of views on platforms such as YouTube and TikTok.

Emanuel has been known for his hard-line views during the pandemic, describing the quarantines imposed for COVID as “mass slaughter.”

In a sermon recently posted online by his fans, he claimed that the United Nations was founded by Satan.
