EU leaders are meeting today and tomorrow in Brussels to discuss the latest developments in the Middle East, Ukraine, the economy and Euro-Turkish relations.

The tense situation in the Middle East, support for Ukraine, and Euro-Turkish relations will be the focus of tonight’s Summit of European leaders in Brussels, while the work of the Summit will continue tomorrow morning with the discussion of strengthening the competitiveness of the European economy.

At tonight’s meeting, which will take the form of a dinner, European leaders will seek to coordinate their actions both in relation to ending the tragic crisis in Gaza by calling for an immediate ceasefire, and the conflict between Israel and Iran .

In particular, the leaders are expected to condemn Iran’s drone and missile attacks against Israel, while calling on all parties to exercise maximum restraint to avoid further escalation in the region.

The Cyprus issue is also on the agenda

With regard to Turkey, there will be a discussion on the conditional rewarming of relations with Ankara, which for the Europeans goes beyond achieving progress in the Cyprus issue.

According to community sources, in the draft of the conclusions to be adopted by the Synod, it is emphasized that the progress towards the settlement of the Cyprus issue will also positively affect Euro-Turkish relations. For this reason, they will call on the Council and the Commission to proceed with a Euro-Turkish approach, which will be done under conditions and in a proportional and reversible manner. The draft conclusions also state that the European Council remains fully committed to a comprehensive settlement of the Cyprus issue, within the framework of the UN, in accordance with the relevant Security Council resolutions and the principles underlying the EU and the acquis communautaire.
