The U.S. reaction remains modest so far, a stance interpreted by many as a decision to distance itself from today’s Israeli attack on an Iranian base, with the Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken, refusing to answer whether Washington had been informed by beforehand. At the same time, this is confirmed by the attitude of American officials, who, while confirming that they received information from Israel, adopt a neutral approach without approving or condemning the counterattack.

Asked about it, Anthony Blinken refused to confirm whether the Israeli counterattack occurred with the knowledge of the US and instead limited himself to repeating that “the US has not engaged in any offensive operations.”

At the same time, he added that Israel has been hit by an “unprecedented attack” and that the US is focused on “ensuring that Israel can defend itself.”

As the American network CNN reports, the White House has adopted a strict approach that reflects the desire of American officials to distance themselves from Israel’s decision.

Instead, they tried to make it clear that the choice was Israel’s alone.

Although US President Joe Biden urged restraint in a recent phone call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu – suggesting that a counter-strike may not be necessary given the successful deterrence of the Iranian attack, few in the White House believed that Israel would not would do anything, notes the American network. It is noted that the White House had asked Israel to be informed in advance of its plans.
