Thousands of demonstrators took to the streets of several cities in Israel yesterday Saturday, demanding an agreement to release all the hostages held by Hamas in the Gaza Strip, as well as the announcement of early elections.

In Tel Aviv, protesters chanted slogans such as “he who abandoned them must bring them back,” referring to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, whom many Israelis blame for the unprecedented attack by Hamas on October 7 that killed about 1,200 people.

Crowds also demonstrated in Haifa, Beer Sheva and outside Netanyahu’s mansion in Caesarea.

Relatives of the abductees accuse the Netanyahu government of not doing enough to reach an agreement as soon as possible.

During a brief truce in November, 105 hostages were released in exchange for 240 Palestinians held in Israeli prisons. Since then, however, no glimmers of hope have emerged for the families of the remaining hostages, who are anxious for the fate of their loved ones.

Until a few weeks ago, Israeli authorities estimated that around 100 abductees were alive and being held in the Gaza Strip. There are now fears that some of them may have died.
