Two people were injured slightly in a car attack on pedestrians in Jerusalem today, the first day of the Jewish Passover, according to rescue services and police, who announced that arrested the two alleged perpetrators.

“Two civilians were hit (…) in Jerusalem, resulting in minor injuries. Two terrorists fled the scene on foot and an improvised ‘Carlo’ type weapon, a submachine gun manufactured by Palestinian armed organizations, was found on their escape route , police initially said in a statement.

After a huge operation, the police announced at the end of the morning the arrest of “two terrorists who carried out” this attack and who had hidden in a shop.

The identities of the two suspects were not released, but the army said in a later statement that they were “in Hebron, in the residences of the terrorists” and were “investigating the people who allegedly helped them.”

Hebron, located in the southern part of the region, is the largest city in the West Bank.

CCTV footage, broadcast by Israeli television, shows a white Toyota veer off course and crash into a group of people on the pavement at a bend before ending up on a parked car. Two young men then get out of the car, guns in hand, and appear to try, unsuccessfully, to open fire, before fleeing the scene on foot.

The Magen David Adom Ambulance Service said it had taken two young men, aged 18 and 22, to hospital with minor injuries following the attack.

The two attackers threw away the weapon and initially fled, with the Israeli authorities arresting them later.

The police announced that the two terrorists were hiding in a closed shop in the area.
