The bodies of 14 migrants have been found in recent days off the coast of Djerba island, Tunisian authorities announced today.
“Bodies started washing up on the shores of Djerba Island on Friday. “Fourteen bodies have been found, most of which are migrants from sub-Saharan Africa,” prosecutor Fathi Bakous told Agence France-Presse (AFP).
Among the victims is an Egyptian, who was identified by the passport found on him, according to the same source.
On Tuesday, the Tunisian authorities announced that off the coast of the city of Sfax, the coast guard had recovered the bodies of another 22 migrants since Saturday.

According to the International Organization for Migration, 2,498 people drowned or went missing trying to cross the Mediterranean last year, a 75% increase compared to 2022.
