The Sorbonne rally is the latest sign that protests at US universities are spreading to Europe
Police intervened this afternoon local time at the Sorbonne University, in Paris, to remove dozens of demonstrators who were holding a rally in favor of the Palestinian cause and who had camped in a courtyard inside the institution, reports AFP and the agency Reuters news.
About 50 protesters were ushered outside the building they were then turned away in groups, flanked by law enforcement, days after a demonstration was marred by incidents at another prestigious university in the French capital, Sciences Po Paris.

“There were about 50 of us when law enforcement came running inside the courtyard. The evacuation was quite violent, with about 10 people crawling on the ground, but no arrests were made,” said Rami, 20, a history student at the Sorbonne.
“They escorted us to the exit and then directed us to the rue Saint-Jacques all together,” he added.
Dozens of students gathered today in front of the Sorbonne and inside the complex, where they set up tents, about 12 tents, according to the rectory, between 20 and 30, according to one protester. A Palestinian flag was placed on the ground.
“We had every reason, like at Yale, Columbia, Sciences Po … to condemn what we see happening,” said another student, who gave his first name as Leonard, at a demonstration outside the gates of the Sorbonne .
“The auditoriums were evacuated at noon,” said the rectory, which decided to close the Sorbonne this afternoon.
Around 150 people had gathered in front of the Sorbonne, in the presence of three MPs from the radical left party La France Insoumise (LFI).
