Trump in a lengthy interview published today in Time magazine detailed his plan if elected president
He will leave states free to decide whether to ban abortion, deploy a military to fight illegal immigration and set conditions on military support for US allies: Donald Trump outlined the political program of his second termif elected, in a lengthy interview published today in Time magazine.
The Republican former president gave two interviews, one in person and one by phone, and explained what he will do if he wins the November presidential election. The reporter asked the 77-year-old tycoon if he would veto a federal law that would drastically limit the right to abortion.
“I don’t need to veto it because now it’s up to the States,” he responded, referring to the Supreme Court’s decision in 2022, ending federal protections for abortion rights and leaving it up to states to decide what to do individually. Donald Trump has hinted that he would also leave states free to decide whether to prosecute those women who obtain abortions in violation of the law. “I don’t have to feel comfortable or not” with that prospect, because “the States will make the decision,” he said.
For immigration, a matter of particular concern to voters, according to polls, he reiterated that I will proceed with mass deportations. “The National Guard (a military body under the States) should be able to take over. If that doesn’t happen, I will use the (federal) military,” he replied to Time. He did not rule out the possibility of new detention camps being built on American soil, but said that “there wouldn’t be much need” because his plan is to deport illegal immigrants back to their countries as soon as possible.
On the economy, he said he was considering the possibility of imposing customs duties “above 10%” on all imported items.
For help in Ukraine, he said he would not give another “if Europe doesn’t start doing the same” with the USA.
The former president also ruled that if South Korea wants the thousands of American troops stationed there to remain on its soil, it should pay more. “Why do we have to defend anyone? And we are talking about a very rich country”commented.
“I believe that the internal enemy is, in many cases, far more dangerous to our country than the external enemies, China, Russia and others”added Trump, who has often praised authoritarian leaders.
He also said he is “absolutely” ready to pardon those convicted of storming the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, trying to prevent Congress from ratifying Democrat Joe Biden’s presidential victory.
When asked about her possibility of political violence after the November election, Trump responded: “If we don’t win, you know, it will depend.”
The Republican, who has never conceded a Biden victory in 2020, also said that if the Supreme Court does not grant him presidential immunity, as he is requesting, Joe Biden “he will be prosecuted for all his crimes.”
