The final moments of a woman who died after being brutally beaten by her minister husband in Kazakhstan have been captured on video and presented in court.

In particular, the footage of the video shows the astrologer Saltanat Nukenova, 31, to be brutally beaten by her husbandKuandyk Bischimbayev, 43, a former Kazakh economy minister, at a restaurant owned by one of his relatives.

The video was shown before the Supreme Court of the country, while it is the first murder trial to be broadcast online. The trial was called the “trial of the century” and led to actions in which tens of thousands of citizens signed petitions for tougher sentences for domestic violence.

Bishimbayev, who faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted, had argued in court that his wife died of self-inflicted injuries.

Nevertheless, closed circuit footage disproves his claim, as they show the politician punching and kicking his defenseless wife for more than two hours.

Bishimbayev finally admitted in court last Wednesday that he had beaten her and “unwittingly” caused her death.

In the video, the pair are seen arguing outside a restaurant called BAU, owned by a relative of the minister in Kazakhstan’s capital Astana.

Bishimbayev is seen angrily hitting his wife and pulling her to the ground by her hair, where he kicks her four times while she is on the ground. As he stands up, he grabs her neck and hits her in the jaw with an object.

Then, as the woman tries to get up, he kicks her again, grabs her by the hair and drags her away.

Saltanat Nukenova, who worked as an astrologer, was found dead the next morning in one of the restaurant’s VIP rooms, with the coroner who examined her body citing head injuries as the cause of death.
