Referring to the Middle East, he underlined that his country would be willing to take part in a UN mission coordinated by an Arab country
The Italian Foreign Minister, Antonio Tajani, in a press conference at the Association of Foreign Correspondents, underlined that “he believes that the natural alliance in Europe is that between the People’s Party, Liberals and Conservatives, as it happened in 2017”. “I don’t think we can work with the Alternative for Germany, we don’t have the same values,” he added.
The Italian Foreign Minister, referring to the Middle East, underlined that his country would be willing to take part in a UN mission, coordinated by an Arab country, with the aim of creating a suitable situation for the creation of a Palestinian state, which would recognize the state of Israel, with the goal of peaceful coexistence.
Answering a question from APE-MPE, Antonio Tajani stated that he is in favor of strengthening the north-eastern side of NATO, but also the creation of a European defense, which should work in close cooperation with the Atlantic Alliance.
“Europe must count more, it must play a more active role in the Middle East, and to the East. We must be politically, not only economically, stronger. We are in favor of a European defense that works fully with NATO, so that Europe counts more, and within the Atlantic Alliance“, underlined the Italian minister.
In relation to the war in Ukraine, Tajani underlined that “the supply of weapons to Ukraine is not made public, but Italy’s goal is to provide weapons that will allow Kiev to defend its territorial integrity.” The head of Italian diplomacy, at the same time, underlined that “he is against a possible military intervention by Italy and NATO in Ukraine, which, after all, has not been discussed at any meeting of the Atlantic Alliance”. “We condemn the Russian invasion of Ukraine, but we are not at war with Russia“, he characteristically said.
