Hamas official Osama Hamdan warned today during a press conference in Beirut that if Israel’s military offensive in Rafah continues, there will be no ceasefire agreement.

Hamdan’s remarks came as a delegation from Hamas, the Palestinian organization that rules the Gaza Strip, arrived in Cairo from Doha to continue negotiations on a ceasefire, according to a statement issued by Hamas.

“We assure that the military operation in Rafah, if carried out by Israel, will not be a picnic for the (Israeli) army,” Hamdan said.

“The ball is in Netanyahu’s court,” he added, stressing that the latest ceasefire proposal agreed to by Hamas “represents the minimum that satisfies the demands of our people and our resistance.”

Israeli forces seized the main border crossing between Egypt and the southern Gaza Strip earlier today, closing off a vital route for aid to the Palestinian enclave, which is already on the brink of famine.

“The Rafah crossing was and will remain a purely Egyptian-Palestinian crossing,” Hamdan said.
