After Tabriz, Raisi’s body was taken to the holy city of Qom, south of Tehran, before leaving for the capital, where they were waiting tens of thousands of people.

Ayatollah Khamenei was scheduled to lead prayers at the funeral procession scheduled for Tuesday night in Tehran, while processions are due to take place on Wednesday morning.

Raisi’s body will be taken Thursday morning to South Khorasan province and then in his hometown of Mashhad, where he will be buried the same evening.

It is recalled that Raisi was killed along with eight other people on Sunday (19/5) when their helicopter crashed. Among them were Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdolakhian, officials of East Azerbaijan province and the head of his security team.

In Iran, large gatherings were held in various cities to pay tribute to Raishi.
